George Lewis is a British artist whose work blurs the boundaries between conceptual and representational art. His work and creative processes demonstrate a perfect balance between concept, craft, philosophical poise, scholarship and draughtsmanship. He fuses traditional and contemporary artistic techniques.
George Lewis's practice explores the links between art, philosophy, ecology and science. Having begun his career within the representational art world, Lewis has branched out into conceptual art, becoming increasingly experimental with subject matter and his use of technology. His developing interest in the human form and also the urban environment represents a new artistic phase in his work.
Currently Lewis is exploring themes of human relationships with nature and the environment; sexual politics, body fascism and the new order of beauty; myth, idolatry and worship; linguistics of the visual image; genealogy and trajectories of knowledge; scientific and religious approaches to trans-human and post-human evolution.
George Lewis was born in 1974 in London, UK. He was educated at Ludgrove, Radley College, Reading University and The University Of Padua, Italy. He lives and works in London.
